Hi! I am Shez and welcome to my Kitchen…
My love for food and cooking developed as a youngster. I have fond memories of preparing, cooking and eating food with my family. Memories of cooking scones with Nanna or organising salads for a big family BBQ have always made me happy.
These memories are what keeps my love of cooking alive. Believe me, it definitely wasn’t because the food was fantastic (sorry Mum and Nan!). But more so because it was prepared together, with thoughtfulness and a bit of love, for the special people in our lives. My vision is that these warm, homely and family values shine through in Shez’s Kitchen.
My passion for food and cooking developed further as my knowledge and understanding of nutrition expanded. In 2007 I began studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy at Brisbane’s Endeavour College of Natural Health. This was enriched when I commenced working at Flannery’s Organic & Wholefood Market nine years ago. In addition, being a professional athlete, I understand how important it is to be conscious of my nutrition. The food I consume plays a vital role in ensuring I perform at my very best during training and matches and also aids with my recovery.
We all know healthy eating has a raft of health benefits along with being a form of preventative healthcare by reducing the risk of lifestyle diseases. Nothing too fancy, no extremes, just a balance of wholesome unprocessed foods which are full of goodness. It is crucial to eat well and look after our bodies. We only get one! However, I believe it is not just about what is in food that is important. However, how meals are prepared, who you dine with and the environment you are in are equally important. Food is here to be enjoyed and meals are always better when you surround yourself with good company.
Finally, I hope to inspire interest in the community into the values of real food and the joy that can be felt from sharing the experience of preparing and eating food together.
